The name
Coffee is said to have taken its name from the Ethiopian region of Kaffa — the zone our plantation sits in.

Ethiopia is the undisputed historic and geographic homeland of Coffea arabica — and Kaffa, where our farm stands, is the place that gave coffee its name.
It started with a young goat herder named Kaldi. He noticed his goats acting strangely, jumping with extraordinary energy. Upon investigating, he discovered they were eating small berries from a wild shrub.
Kaldi tasted the berries himself, felt instantly elated and energised, and knew he had discovered something truly special. Every cup poured since traces back to a forest much like the one our trees grow in.

The powers of a man’s mind are directly proportioned to the quantity of coffee he drinks.

Ethiopia holds the deepest genetic pool of Coffea arabica on earth. Varieties here are wild, local and unrepeatable elsewhere.
Kaffa’s dense forest is a UNESCO-registered biosphere reserve. Coffee grows here the way it always has: in shade, slowly.
Cherry is still picked selectively by hand, by people who live in the zone and are paid to leave the unripe fruit on the tree.
